2045 Carnival Folklore is a fast, funny, dystopian “b-movie” – a sci-fi film set 100 years after the Hirioshima bomb (hence the 2045 in the title) and created in the 5 years after Japan’s 3/11 disaster at the Fukushima power plant.
“A noise rock Brave New World with echoes of Alphaville, this gorgeous black and white vision of Japan after a nuclear disaster pits chaos against control , secret agents against an oppressive government agency” – David Novak .
The film’s World Premiere as a Live Movie Screening at 2015’s Seattle International Film Festival (where audience gave a 4.1/5 rating ) and the festival director Andy Spletzer described the event as “the live score that came with the screening was definitely my favorite thing about the 2015 Seattle Intensively Film Festival – can’t wait to see what they do next”.
The film director Kato’s has coined the term “Live Movie Screening” for such events. It refers to when the movie is screened in combination with a live music performance – “the space is filled with a host of sounds, from the faintest of sighs to a roaring noises that physically press against your body” – a new type of ‘expanded film’ experience, much beyond that of the normal cinema experience because of its alternative, interactive and highly theatrical approach.
